The story of Wiltshire Together

Wiltshire Together was created in response to the Covid-19 pandemic.

2020 was a year of immense challenge for many people with the pandemic highlighting many inequalities, deficiencies in health systems, over-reliance on public services and so forth.

As government restrictions limited social interactions, anxiety rose among residents who depended on organisational support. Wiltshire Together stepped in to fill the gaps and is now the go-to platform for county-wide community services.

Wiltshire Together facilitates connections, resource sharing and mutual support.

In 2023, we transferred family and children services onto the platform on behalf of Wiltshire Council, forming a full service directory for everyone in Wiltshire. This helps young people and families by providing a single platform for all their needs.

Wiltshire Together provides a 'family portal' for storing and sharing information related to the Family Help Offer as well as a ‘practitioner portal’ to access relevant screening tools and referral criteria.

Made Open manages Wiltshire Together on behalf of Wessex Community Action.

We're also helping Wessex Community Action develop a plan to generate revenue for the platform. This aims to sustain the platform, which has become crucial for the county, amidst a tough economic environment where everyone's budgets are tight.

This strategy aims to address isolated approaches to community development commonly seen in the social sector.

Highlights:

  • 2,000 activities added over a 3-year period.
  • Integrated community and service directory.
  • Dedicated area for children, young people and families.

Families and communities across Wiltshire face many problems that are often complex and multi-faceted. These problems cannot be fixed by any one organisation alone. The Wiltshire Together platform has helped us introduce a more holistic, integrated and sustainable approach to community development across Wiltshire by harnessing and connecting resources within communities.
